BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Chen Yunlin, director of the StateCouncil's Taiwan Affairs Office, described a speech delivered Friday by Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), as an "important guide" for handing Taiwan issue.

Jia gave the speech at a meeting held here to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the speech "Continuing to Endeavor for the Accomplishment of the Grand Cause of Reunification of the Motherland," given by the then President Jiang Zemin on January 30,1995.

Chen said Jia thought highly of new ideas, judgment and policies contained by "eight-point proposal," which was put forward by Jiang Zemin.

Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), elaborated on China's consideration for enacting the Anti-Secession Law and said both the mainland and Taiwan belong to one and the same China though the two sides not yet reunited.

Jia said the Chinese mainland stands ready to talk with whoeverwilling to play a part in cross-Straits consultations and ready toexplore new ways of problem solving through consultation with all political parties, organizations and representative personalities in Taiwan who recognize the 1992 consensus, oppose "Taiwan independence" and support the development of cross-Straits relations.

As long as the DPP (Democratic Progressive Party) relinquishes its "Taiwan independence constitution" and stops its separatist activities, Chen quoted Jia's speech as saying, "We are willing torespond positively by making contacts with it."

Chen said Jia's speech sets forth the most important views and proposals on current cross-Straits relations insisted by the CPC Central Committee. Enditem
