Russia's Far East suffers 2nd earthquake in 48 hours

    MOSCOW, Jan. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Russia's Far East suffered a 5.9-magnitude earthquake Tuesday night, less than two days after several tremors measuring up to 4 on the Richter scale, hit the area, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Wednesday.

    The tremor struck the Northern Kurile Islands in the Russian Far East at 21:54 p.m. Moscow time (1854GMT) on Tuesday, accordingto Russian seismology service. But there no report by now of casualties or damage.

    The epicenter was located 220 km off the Paramushir Island and 158 km under the Pacific Ocean floor. The service ruled out the threat of a tsunami. Enditem
