NATO to hold mock military exercise in Slovakia

    PRAGUE, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will hold a simulative military exercise dubbed "CMX2005" from Wednesday in Slovakia, according to reports reaching here Tuesday from Bratislava, the Slovak capital.

    The Slovak news agency quoted Slovak defense ministry sources as reporting that the exercise, aimed at improving NATO 's ability to handle crisis and ease tension between two imaginary countries,includes scenarios of conventional clashes and non-conventional threats, such as terrorist attacks and weapons of mass destruction.

    The one-week-long exercise will be directed by NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Participants will be NATO members and members of NATO's Partnership for Peace including Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Finland, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland and Macedonia. Enditem
