MALE, Jan. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The Maldives started its parliamentary elections on Saturday morning.

The elections, or elections of People's Majlis, were originally scheduled to take place on Dec. 31, 2004, but postponed after the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster on Dec. 26.

A total of 156,766 qualified voters will participate in the elections in 387 ballot boxes around 20 atolls and capital Male.
