EU to consider China's market economy status
www.chinaview.cn 2005-01-18 15:31:14

BEIJING, Jan. 18 -- The European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson says China's market economy status is a technical question, not a political one.

The commissioner notes that the EU does not have any timetable to grant China's market economy status, but China is developing in the right direction.

He says the EU and China will eventually resolve the "unsettled" questions on market economy status.

In response to possible trade frictions between the EU and China in the future, Peter Mandelson proposes setting-up a warning system and a negotiation mechanism as well as seeking reasonable measures for trade dispute solutions.
