กก  JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Canada will increase its investment in Indonesia with some of its investors already eyeing the energy, mining and transportation sectors, the Antara news agency quoted Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia Randolph Mank as saying on Monday.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the Infrastructure Summit here, he said that during the past three months Canada had announced new investment of more than 680 million Canadian dollars(560 million US dollars) in the mining, oil and gas sectors, including plans to expand the operations of nickel company PT Incoin Sulawesi.

"At this meeting (Infrastructure Summit), I am accompanied by Canadian investors who are seeking opportunities to invest in the energy, mining and transportation sectors," Mank said.

Canada-based insurance company Manulife Indonesia would also increase its investment in government bonds so that it could more actively participate in infrastructure development in Indonesia.

Manulife was investing more than 70 percent of its rupiah assets in government bonds that could be used to reach the government's target of expenditure for infrastructure.

During the next one year, Manulife would increase its exposure percentage in government bonds to 90 percent of its rupiah portfolio.

According to Mank, with Canadian investment in Indonesia totaling more than 5.5 billion US dollars, Indonesia is the second-ranking destination country for Canadian investment in Asia.

In response to the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Acehand North Sumatra, Mank said, Canada has set aside 425 million US dollars in aid package and agreed to grant a debt moratorium to Indonesia.

Canada also has promised to allocate 265 million US dollars infunds for humanitarian aid and rehabilitation over the next five years and 160 million US dollars for reconstruction of tsunami-affected regions from 2005 to 2009, he said. Enditem
