                Indonesia says deadline flexible

BEIJING, Jan. 17 --US Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz has reiterated the US will withdraw troops from the tsunami-hit Aceh province as soon as they complete their rescue mission.

Wolfowitz says the US presence, including its military presence, won't be in Aceh for a long time.

Wolfowitz, who is a former US ambassador to Jakarta, is due to fly to Aceh Sunday to see the US troops engaged in rescue and relief missions.

He will then return to Jakarta for talks with Indonesian officials.

Indonesian Vice President Yusuf Kalla last Wednesday asked foreign troops to pull out of Aceh by March 26.
