Iran voices confidence on IAEA inspection of military site

TEHRAN, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Iran voiced confidence Sunday on an inspection by the UN nuclear watchdog of its Parchin military site, the official IRNA news agency reported.

"The results of analysis on samples taken from Parchin's green area will prove Iran's assertions regarding peaceful nature of its nuclear activities are truthful," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying.

Asefi said the results would be announced after independent examination was conducted.

"Even before the samples were brought out for investigation, weare confident the results would bear out Iran's assertions," Asefi added.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors started inspection on Thursday on Parchin military site, 30 km southeast of Tehran.

The site is suspected by the United States to hold secret nuclear research facilities.

Earlier this month, Iran permitted the IAEA to carry out inspection of Parchin, but warned any spying activity on the site would be unacceptable.

The United States has accused Iran of developing secret nuclear weapons, a charge rejected by Tehran.
