KABUL, Jan. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- The Afghan government has released some 80 former Taliban operatives from a jail inside the country Sunday afternoon.

    A well-informed source told Xinhua that these former prisoners were previously held in a US military base in Bagram, about 50 km north of Kabul.

    The American authorities has sent a number of Taliban operatives to Bagram base for involvement in terrorist activities.Some of them have been released.
