BERLIN, Jan. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- German lawmakers called for a Europe-wide prohibition on Nazi insignia Saturday after British Prince Harry wore a swastika at a fancy dress party.
Harry caused outrage after he dressed as a Nazi official with a large swastika at the party. He then apologized for his gaffe in a written statement on Thursday.
"All of Europe suffered under Nazi crimes in the past, therefore, it would be logical for Nazi symbols to be banned all over Europe," said Silvana Koch-Merin, vice president of the Liberal group in the European Parliament.
She also called for putting the issue on the agenda at the next meeting of justice ministers.
The vice president of the parliamentary Social Democratic group,Michael Mueller, believed that an anti-Nazi law in Germany could be applied in the rest of Europe. Enditem |
