Yanukovych camp working on appeal: campaign manager

KIEV, Jan. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Viktor Yanukovych's camp is working on an appeal to the Ukrainian Supreme Court demanding the annulment of the Dec. 26 re-vote results, the campaign manager of the presidential candidate said Thursday.

The appeal, which will include over 600 volumes of documents and about 240 videotapes, could be submitted to the Supreme Court as early as Friday, Taras Chornovyl said.

Complaining of massive fraud in the Dec. 26 rerun, Yanukovych said he would appeal the results, which handed victory to opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko. But his camp said Wednesday it would delay filing the complaints to the Supreme Court.

Chornovyl said Thursday the delay is due to "technical and formal issues."

"Now we need to work more with the evidence and lawyers have advised us to improve the text of the complaint," he said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday prohibited the Central Election Commission and the two official gazettes from officially publishing the final election results before the court examines the last appeal of Yanukovych.

Yushchenko lost to Yanukovych in the runoff presidential election on Nov. 21, but the results were annulled later by the Supreme Court citing vote-rigging.

In the rerun of the election on Dec. 26, Yushchenko was declared the winner with 51.99 percent of the votes against 44.20 percent for Yanukovych. But Yanukovych has refused to concede defeat.

Yanukovych's supporters have threatened to stage massive protests in capital Kiev and other parts of the country. Enditem
