BRUSSELS, Jan. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Parliament gave its overwhelming endorsement to the European Union's first constitution Wednesday with 500 deputies voting in favor, 137 against and 40 abstentions.

    The EU assembly, meeting in Strasbourg, France, called on EU governments to move quickly to ratify the constitution.,

    The treaty will only come into force if all 25 members ratify it, several by referendums. Only Lithuania and Hungary have ratified the treaty by parliamentary vote so far. Enditem
