LONDON, Jan. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Katherine Bates of Australia won herthird gold medal in as many days when she won the women's scratch race at the track cycling World Cup in Manchester on Sunday.
Olympian Bates won the points race on Friday and the individualpursuit on Saturday.
Following Bates on Sunday were second-placed Rebecca Quinn of the United States, and third-placed Virginie Moinard of France.
Britain's team sprint trio bounced back from its Olympic disappointment to win on Sunday.
Chris Hoy, Jason Queally and Craig Maclean -- who were knocked out by eventual gold medalist Germany in Athens -- won in 44.493 seconds.
They beat Poland, which clocked 46.010 in the gold medal ride-off, while Japan beat Australia to the bronze medal.
Making the British team's performance even more impressive was the fact that Maclean was riding with a cracked rib and abrasions from a fall during qualifying for the invitational Japanese Keirin.
French duo Andy Flickinger and Jerome Neuville won the Madison,in which British duo Rob Hayles and Stephen Cummings both crashed.
While Cummings managed to resume riding, Hayles couldn't but wasn't seriously injured. Also, Spanish rider Miguel Alzamora clipped his wheel and had to pull out. Alzamora was officially warned for a dangerous move.
Frenchman Mickael Bourgain won 10,000 pounds (18,700 US dollars)in the Japanese Keirin, which had a total prize purse of 45,000 pounds (84,000 US dollars).
Australia's Shane Kelly was second and another Frenchman, Gregory Bauge, was third.
Natalia Tsylinskay of Belarus won the women's Keirin, followed by Susann Panzer of Germany, and Jenny Reed of the United States. Enditem |
