Why Jennifer Left Brad

BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Jennifer Aniston ended her marriage to heart-throb Brad Pitt during a bitter row in London last month, their friends said last night.

The final showdown took place at the Dorchester Hotel when Aniston, 35, told Pitt, 41, that she wanted to put movies ahead of motherhood.

The Friends star said she didn't want to be remembered only as airhead Rachel from the sitcom and needed to establish a serious career.

And though friends claim Aniston's career was the deciding factor, speculation continues to rage about Pitt's relationship with actor Angelina Jolie - a UK newspaper yesterday reporting the pair shared an intense year-long relationship.

A source said: "Jennifer was the one who called the shots while she was in London finishing her movie Derailed.

"The marriage was over then and it was her decision. She told Brad that she was not ready to settle down and wasn't prepared to give her career up. Jennifer feels that, careerwise, there's a lot left for her to fulfil.

"Her words were, 'I don't want to be remembered for playing a fashionable airhead. I want to make serious movies. No one remembers Robin Williams for Mork and Mindy.'

"She also hated the fact that Brad would go on about wanting to start a family when she had told him she wasn't ready. When they visited her family he was always joking that the patter of small Pitt feet was not far off, but she was not of the same opinion.

"They went away for a holiday but after the first day it was clear that the relationship had grown very cold.

"Brad said that they spent the rest of the holiday working out how they would release the news of the split. They worked out together the reasons they would give and how they would protect the brand they have built up."

The pair, who married 4?years ago, announced on Friday night that they were officially separating after months of speculation their union was rocky.

They denied any third party was involved - understood to be a direct reference to suggestions Pitt had become involved with Jolie, 29, his co-star in Mr & Mrs Smith.

The News of The World cited a Hollywood source: "Brad never made any secret of the fact he wanted a family, but Jennifer refused, preferring to concentrate on building her movie career. Angelina is very maternal and gorgeous and Brad was completely drawn for all those reasons."

Last May, Pitt was photographed holding Jolie's hand on set, prompting speculation that they had become close. Both denied any romance.

Pitt hinted at trouble, saying: "Nothing is ever what it seems, is it? I hate the notion of fairytales anyway."
