EU concerned about Palestinian presidential election
www.chinaview.cn 2005-01-09 02:34:51

RAMALLAH, Jan. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Representative of the European Commission in the Palestinian territories John Care asserted Saturday that the European Union (EU) shows great concern about the presidential election to be held on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after he visited the West Bank city of Qalqilya, Care pointed to the EU's stance on the peace process -- calling for a two-state solution.

"The European Union is working to resolve the Palestinian question on the basis of the international legitimacy," he said.

He said the EU was concerned about the election, for which it sent an observer delegation consisting of 30 European parliamentarians and other dignitaries.

"I hope that the Palestinian people will participate in the election to choose a strong president," he said.  Enditem
