COLOMBO, Jan. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary General Kofi Annan visited Sri Lanka's Tsunami ravaged areas Saturday.

    Accompanied by Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and the visiting Head of the World Bank James Wolfenshon, Annan, who arrived in Sri Lanka on Friday, visited the southern port town of Hambantota, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation said.

    He visited relief centers and talked to people before flying tothe eastern port town of Trincomalee to view the Tsunami devastation in the eastern province's coastal line.

    Meanwhile the pro-Tamil website Tamilnet accused the Colombo government of prevailing upon the UN chief not to visit the rebel controlled northern province.

    The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels have called for direct international relief for their areas blaming the Colombo government of not sending enough relief supplies.

    Sri Lanka's eastern and southern coastal belts were devastated by Tsunami tidal waves on Dec. 26, 2004.

    Over 30,000 people died in the country's worst natural disaster.Enditem
