Top UN envoy calls for broad participation in Iraq's elections

    UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The top UN envoy to Iraq, Ashraf Qazi, repeated on Thursday his call to all parties in Iraq to participate in their country's upcoming elections.

    In a statement released after a one-day conference by Iraq's neighbors on the situation, Qazi, UN Secretary-General's special representative for Iraq, reassured Iraq's neighbors that the worldbody will double its efforts helping the war-torn country.

    In the statement, the foreign ministers of Iraq's neighbors stressed the importance of the world body in supporting the political process.

    It also voiced thanks to the United Nations for its work in promoting national dialogue and consensus-building ahead of the elections. Enditem
