French president warns Iran against nuclear activities
www.chinaview.cn 2005-01-07 05:32:06

PARIS, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- French President Jacques Chirac warned Iran on Thursday against activities that risk to ruin its nuclear non-proliferation accord with Europe.

In November, Iran, suspected by Washington of intending to develop the atomic bomb, agreed to suspend its uranium enrichment program after long negotiations with France, Britain and Germany under the aegis of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"In the fight against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, Iran's case shows the path to take," he told all foreign ambassadors in Paris.

"Countries which respect their international obligations in terms on non-proliferation and show proof of the peaceful nature of their activities should be able to benefit from technologies that are allowed under international rules," Chirac said.

"But no weakness can be shown to those who renege on their commitments," he added. Enditem
