China ready to help India in relief efforts, says premier

    JAKARTA, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Thursday that China is ready to help India in carrying out relief, reconstruction and building a disaster early warning system following the devastating tsunami, which hit the country's southeastern coastal area.

    Wen made the remarks while meeting with Indian Foreign MinisterNatwar Singh on the sideline of the Special ASEAN Leaders' Meetingon Aftermath of Earthquake and Tsunami, which gathered heads of state or government, ministers and senior officials from 26 countries and groups.

    Wen said that China shared deep sympathy with India over the heavy losses in human lives and properties inflicted by the tsunami. He also expressed his admiration for the fortitude and resilience shown by the Indian people in the face of the large-scale natural disaster.

    If India needs, China will continue to provide aid to the SouthAsian country and carry out full cooperation with it in the fieldsof relief operations, rehabilitation and disaster detecting and early warnings, he added.

    The donations provided by China to India is a proof of friendship between people of the two countries.

    Wen also expressed his firm belief that the Indian people, known for their diligence and bravery, will finally triumph over the disaster and reconstruct the homes destroyed in the tsunami.

    On behalf of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Indian people, Natwar Singh expressed his gratitude for the sympathy and support provided by the Chinese government and people, which he said is highly valued by India.

    Singh also said India is expecting to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields. Enditem
