BEJIJING, Jan. 6 -- Iraq's interim president, Ghazar al-Yawar, is calling on the United Nations to say whether the country should go ahead with its scheduled January 30 election despite the violence that could scare voters away from the polls.

    Iraq's interim government and its US allies have repeatedly said that the vote would not be delayed, but Yawar says the elections will fail if a raging insurgency keeps a significant number of Iraqis away from voting stations.

    Yawar is blaming the Iraqi interim government for failing to keep him informed of political developments.

    The president also warned the US and Coalition forces in Iraq that the military campaign to capture Falluja in November 2004 must not be repeated in the city of Mosul.
