About 9,000 foreigners killed, missing for in Asian tsunami

    BEIJING, Jan. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Around 9,000 foreigners are killed,missing or unaccounted for in the tsunami triggered by a strong earthquake off an Indonesia island.

    The earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.7 over the Richter scale according to China's State Seismological Bureau, occurred at 06:58 a.m. (0058 GMT) on Dec. 26 off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The death toll now is more than 145,000.????

    Following is a list of foreigners killed or reported missing sofar in the disaster:

    Argentina:

    2 dead, 1 reported missing, 3 unaccounted for.

    Australia:

    14 dead, 72 missing, about 560 unaccounted for.

    Austria:

    10 confirmed dead, at least 385 missing, 206 unaccounted for.

    Belgium:

    6 dead, 65 missing, about 250 unaccounted for.

    Brazil:

    2 killed.

    Britain:

    41 reported killed, 159 unaccounted for.

    Canada:

    5 dead, 146 missing.

    Chile:

    7 missing.

    China:

    15 confirmed dead. (Three from the mainland, nine from Hong Kong, three from Taiwan)

    Colombia:

    1 baby girl killed in Malaysia.

    Croatia:

    1 dead, 1 missing.

    The Czech Republic:

    1 dead, about 7 reported missing, 10 unaccountable.

    Denmark:

    At least 7 dead, 57 missing.

    Finland:

    1 confirmed dead, 177 missing.

    France:

    22 killed, 99 missing, 560 unaccounted for.

    Germany:

    60 dead, about 1,000 missing.

    Greece:

    9 missing.

    Hungary:

    10 unaccounted for.

    Iceland:

    11 missing.

    Ireland:

    1 confirmed dead, 20 unaccounted for.

    Israel:

    4 dead, about 7 missing.

    Italy:

    At least 20 dead, about 338 missing.

    Japan:

    23 reported killed, 528 people unaccounted for.

    Luxembourg:

    2 missing.

    Malta:

    1 missing.

    Mexico:

    15 reported missing.

    The Netherlands:

    7 dead, 30 missing, 120 unaccounted for.

    New Zealand:

    2 reported killed, 4 missing, 50 unaccounted for.

    Norway:

    12 dead, 80 unaccounted for.

    Poland:

    5 dead, 30 missing.

    Portugal:

    8 missing.

    Romania:

    2 missing.

    Russia:

    10 killed, about 29 unaccounted for.

    Singapore:

    7 dead, 15 missing, 23 unaccounted for.

    South Africa:

    9 killed, 6 missing, 880 unaccounted for.

    South Korea:

    11 dead, 9 missing.

    Spain:

    3 missing.

    Sweden:

    52 confirmed dead, 702 missing, 1,201 unaccounted for.

    Switzerland:

    23 killed, 105 missing, 400 unaccounted for.

    Turkey:

    1 dead, 9 missing.

    The United States:

    At least 36 dead.
