BEIJING, Jan. 4 -- Chinese digital television viewers now can watch
American programs provided by HBO owned by the American media Giant Time-Warner.
China's central television CCTV signed a deal with
Time-Warner to broadcast six hours of HBO programs on CCTV's pay channel First
Theatre.
HBO also cooperates with Shanghai SMG group to provide 50 American films to
20,000 pay TV users every month.
China's digital paid TV service was making little progress in 2004 because
of limited content.
2004 figures show China has two million digital TV subscribers, while the
number of traditional TV subscribers is 340 million.
