COLOMBO, Jan. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Tsunami-hit Sri Lanka is to launch a re-location plan for schools within one km off the coastline, local media reported Monday.

The Daily News newspaper quoted sources from the Ministry of Education as saying that the State Engineering Corporation, the National Construction, the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and other concerned agencies are all involved in the program.

The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank are also working very closely with the education ministry and engineers to initiatethis process as early as possible, said the newspaper.

Tsunami totally destroyed 37 schools in all the 13 districts across Sri Lanka, it said, adding that 90 other schools have been partially damaged, while some 25 schools need to be cleared of debris. Enditem
