Egypt to help resolve pressing Arab issues in 2005: FM

   CAIRO, Dec. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed AbulGheit said on Tuesday that Egypt will try to help resolve somepressing issues in the Arab world in the coming new year, Egypt'sofficial MENA news agency reported.

   Egypt will pursue its active role in the Mideast peacemakingdrive, encourage inter-Palestinian dialogue and follow up Israel'splanned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, Abul Gheit was quoted assaying during a visit to Bahrain.

   The top Egyptian diplomat said the country will also intensifyits efforts with all parties concerned to help resolve the crisisin Sudan's western region of Darfur.

   "The situation in Iraq will also top the agenda of ourpriorities in the new year," he said, adding Egypt is consideringholding a meeting to follow up the developments in Iraq in thelight of a major international conference on Iraq which was hostedby Egypt in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Nov. 23.   The foreign minister also said Egypt will host on March 3 aconference grouping foreign ministers of Arab countries and G-8members to discuss development and stability in the Arab world.   Abul Gheit on Monday started a four-day Gulf tour, which willalso take him to Oman and Qatar.  Enditem
