JERUSALEM, Dec. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- The Constitution, Legislation andLaw Committee of the Israeli Knesset (parliament) on Tuesday tiedin a vote on the Evacuation Compensation Bill, which lines outfinancial compensation for settlers who are to be evacuated underthe disengagement plan, the Jerusalem Post reported. The bill can not be put for vote in the Knesset before it isapproved by the committee, while Israeli Prime Minister ArielSharon hopes to bring the bill to final readings in the Knesset byearly 2005, the report said.
The committee will vote for the second time on the bill in thecoming weeks after additional financial matters regardingevacuation are concluded, added the report.
The government is making a budget of 2.2 billion sheckels (500million US dollars) for the disengagement plan, under which Israelwill withdraw from all the 21 settlements in the Gaza Strip andfour in the West Bank by 2005.
However, expenses are expected to rise to as high as 5 billionsheckels (1.136 billion dollars), including costs for the IsraelDefense Forces' redeployment.
Each family is to receive an average compensation of 300,000dollars under the bill. Enditem |
