Iraqi provincial governor escapes assassination

    BAGHDAD, Dec. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- The governor of Iraq's eastern Diyal province on Saturday escaped an assassination attempt when a roadside bomb detonated near his car, police said.

    Governor Abdullah Hussein al-Jbouri narrowly survived the blast that took place in Khan Bani Saad area between Baquba and Baghdad,albeit four of his guards were wounded, they said.

    In a separate incident, Jalil Ibrahim, a local council member of Taji town, just north of Baghdad, was shot dead by unknown gunmen,police said. Enditem
