CAIRO, Dec. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Egyptian intelligence chief Omer Suleiman arrived in Israel early Tuesday on a brief visit to be followed by a visit to the Palestinian territories, the official MENA news agency reported.

Suleiman will discuss with Amos Gilad, the security official of Israeli Defence Ministry on the deployment of guards at the Egyptian side of borders with the Gaza Strip and the implementation of Israeli plan of withdrawing from Gaza.

Later in the day, Suleiman is to meet with Palestinian officials and take part in a ceremony marking the 40th day of the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Diplomatic sources said Egypt expressed readiness to deploy 750 Egyptian officers and soldiers on the borderline by April 2005 to prevent weapons smuggling through underground tunnels from Egypt.  Enditem
