Russian ex-security officer jailed for spying
www.chinaview.cn 2004-12-14 22:51:57

MOSCOW, Dec. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- A Moscow military court on Tuesday jailed a former Lieutenant-Colonel with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) for 10 years for spying for Estonia, the Interfax news agency reported.

The Moscow district military court ruled in camera that Igor Vyalkov, while working for the FSB's Russian Border Service, provided information about three Russian intelligence officers to an Estonian special service agent named Zoya Tint.

Vyalkov, detained in 2002 and held at Moscow's Lefortovo prison, denied the accusation, saying he was trying to detain Tint at the border with Estonia.

The court rejected his claim and concluded Vyalkov had sold secret information to a foreign intelligence agent damaging Russia's state security in the process.

The court rejected charges against him of illegally collecting and storing secret information and of illegally crossing the border. Enditem
