Palestinians warn of plan to demolish Islamic landmark
www.chinaview.cn 2004-12-14 19:14:24

RAMALLAH, Dec. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Al Aqsa Institute Renovating the Islamic Sites warned on Tuesday of Israeli intentions to remove or demolish the wall leads to al Magharba gate next to the western wall of the Aqsa Mosque.

Chairmen of the foundation, Ali Abu Shikkha expressed to reporters his complete rejection to the Israeli plans aiming at destroying the Islamic landmarks.

The foundation said in an urgent statement that "neither the occupied Jerusalem municipality nor the Israeli regime has the right to remove even one stone or a simple part of the wall or the path leading to Al-Maghareba (Dung Gate), because they are considered part and parcel of the Aqsa Mosque."

The statement cautioned that the destruction of that gate might cause gaps in the wall of the holy site, which in turn might lead to its collapse.

Shikkha pointed out that the Israeli government has been for many years getting in the way of the Aqsa foundation from repairing the Aqsa Mosque, which was damaged by the excavations it implemented.

The Israeli government will be the one responsible and accountable for any dangers resulting of damaging the wall of the mosque. Enditem
