Indonesian parliament to trace corruption case
www.chinaview.cn 2004-12-14 18:18:53

JAKARTA, Dec. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian parliament would summon military commander and two ministers in January next year, for tracing a bribery case of purchasing 100 units Scorpion tanks worth 311 million US dollars from the United Kingdom in 1994, a lawmaker said on Tuesday.

"The Commission One of the parliament will hear about the issue. If there is an irregularity in the purchasing of the tanks, we will investigate legally," said Chairman of the Commission One L. Theo Sambuaga.

Sambuaga said that the parliament would take stern actions against those involved in the scandal.

He said if there was an indication of irregularities, the next step would be taken by legal officers.

"We will summon whoever implicated," he added.

Indonesian Corruption Watch had found a mark up in the purchasing of the tanks, and asked the government to probe Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana, the oldest daughter of former Indonesian President Soeharto, who was allegedly involved in the case.

The Indonesian government led by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has declared war on the systemic corruption in the country. Enditem
