Kuwaiti PM vows to continue support for Palestinian cause

KUWAIT CITY, Dec. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah vowed on Sunday to continue support for the Palestinian liberation cause.

"Kuwait is committed to supporting the Palestinian brothers, and we will continue to extend financial support for them," the Kuwait News Agency quoted the premier as saying.

He made the remarks when a high-level delegation led by Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee
Chairman Mahmoud Abbas arrived here on a historic visit.

The visit is the first one by a high-ranking Palestinian official since ties were frozen 14 years ago over the late
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's backing of the Iraqi 1990 invasion against Kuwait, a tiny neighbor.

Asked if the visit aimed at earning more Kuwaiti support, the premier said that Kuwait has never let the Palestinians down, even during the hardship of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

"how can we give up this fair cause when they are in much betterconditions?" he replied.

When asked if he would demand the apology from Abbas for the Palestinian stance on the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah said, "We should not act like children and keep repeating (calls for) apology... (making) an apology is easy, Abu-Mazen (Abbas) does not refuse to apologize... he would say more than justan apology."

Abbas made the apology shortly after arriving in Kuwait for a three-day visit on Sunday.

The Palestinian delegation has visited Jordan, the first leg of a its Arab-Gulf tour aiming at restoring and boosting Palestinian relations with the Arab states.

The delegation will head to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman after visiting Kuwait. Enditem
