GAZA, Dec. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Israel will release several dozens of Palestinian prisoners from its jails as part of a goodwill gesture to Egypt, Israeli security sources said Saturday.
Egyptian diplomatic sources disclosed that some 120 Palestinian prisoners would be freed from Israeli jails, with some prominent figures among them.
They said it is possible that Abdel Rahim Mallouh, the Popular Front's deputy chairman, lawmaker Husam Khadder and Hamas leader in the West Bank Jamal Taweel will be on the list to be freed.
However, Easa Qaraquie, head of the Palestinian Prisoner Club, said most of the prisoners to be freed have already finished their imprisonment terms.
Egypt and Israel succeeded in a prisoner swap last week. Convicted Israeli Mosad agent Azzam Azzam was released by Egypt after six Egyptian students were freed by Israel. Enditem |
