CPI growth rate drops in November

    BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The consumer price index (CPI) in China rose by 2.8 percent in November year-on-year, but dropped 0.3 percent from October.

    Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics Friday indicate that in November, CPI grew 2.4 percent in urban area and 3.6 percent in rural area over the same month last year.

    In November, the price of food increased 5.9 percent year-on-year while those of consuming products and services grew 2.8 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively.

    Of the food prices, grain price surged 19.2 percent in November,followed by meat, aquatic products, eggs and edible oil. However, the price of vegetable dived 14.4 percent.

    The figures also show that from January to November this year, China's CPI grew 4 percent from the same period last year.
