Strong earthquake hits north Japan island

    TOKYO, Dec. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 hit wide areas of Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido on Monday night, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

    The agency has issued a tsunami warning to Hokkaido's eastern coast.

    The 11:15 p.m. quake recorded an upper 5 on the 7-point Japan seismic scale in Akkeshi, eastern Hokkaido. Enditem
