JAKARTA, Dec. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- The Indonesian government has launched investigation into the situation at the Adi Sumarmo Airport in the Central Java town of Solo following Tuesday's accident that killed at least 26 people after a passenger plane skidded-off on runway.

"I have ordered the Transport Minister to conduct investigation as to find the cause of the accident and to examine the airport condition during the rainy season," Vice President Jusuf Kalla told reporters here Wednesday.

He said the investigation must focus on whether the plane had met all flight procedures before the accident and on the runway condition during the rainy season.

The investigation team will group aviation experts from the Transport Ministry, he said.

The MD-82 passenger plane belonging to Lion Air skidded off runway amid rain in Solo and crashed into the airport gate.

The death toll has risen to 33 based on cumulative data from hospitals. Enditem
