IAEA urges Iran to extend enrichment suspension
www.chinaview.cn 2004-11-30 16:21:42

BEIJING, Nov. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency has called on Iran to continue and extend its suspension of all nuclear enrichment and related reprocessing activities.

The Board of Governors of the IAEA also decided not to refer Iran's nuclear issue to the UN Security Council.
Director-general of the IAEA Mohamed ElBaradei assessed earlier that Iran has suspended all uranium enrichment activities after it agreed to freeze the activities of 20 centrifuges, China Radio International reported Tuesday.

But the resolution adopted by the IAEA says the agency is not yet in a position to conclude that there are no undeclared nuclear materials or related activities in Iran.

Chinese representative to UN Vienna agencies Zhang Yan said the resolution shows that Iran's nuclear issue can be solved through dialogue and negotiation.

In Washington, US White House spokesman Scott McClellan said it's now important for Iran to comply fully with its commitments.
