RAMALLAH, Nov. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian officials said Monday that Israel still obstructs the Palestinian elections registration in east Jerusalem despite its promise to facilitate the efforts.
They said the registration stations in east Jerusalem can not open because the Israeli ban is still in effect.
A senior Israeli official, who declined to give his name, said Sharon tends to agree to allow the Palestinians living in east Jerusalem to vote, but the intention has to be presented to the cabinet for approval.
He added that the Palestinians had not submitted a request regarding polling in Jerusalem.
The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) decided to hold municipal elections on Dec. 23 and president elections on Jan. 9 with polling taking place in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem. Enditem |
