MOSCOW, Nov. 28 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 140 people, mostly children, have fallen sick as a result of food poisoning in southern Russia, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Sunday.

The agency for civil defense and emergencies in the Karachayevo-Cherkessiya Republic said 95 people were hospitalized in Cherkessk, the republic's capital.

Children at kindergartens were the first to be stricken by the food poisoning, the report said.

Poorly prepared food from a local company could be responsible for the incident, although food samples of another two companies were also taken for examination, the Itar-Tass said. Enditem
