RAMALLAH, Nov. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei and chief of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Mahmoud Abbas will leave for Egypt for talks with President Hosni Mubarak on Saturday.

During the talks, the Palestinian leaders will brief Mubarak on developments of Palestinian internal issues and efforts to maintainthe Palestinians' unity, a senior Palestinian official said on Tuesday on conditions of anonymity.

"They will also discuss with Mubarak issues related to the Palestinian elections and recent Palestinian-US talks as well as ways to push forward the peace process and establish an independentPalestinian state.

Meanwhile, chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, said that declaring the establishment of a Palestinian state on a certain date in 2005 is a basic point in reactivating the peace process.

"The key to restarting the peace process and implementing the roadmap peace plan is that the international quartet (the UN, the EU, Russia and the US) should observe who implements the roadmap and who does not," he said. Enditem
