GAZA, Nov. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- Palestinian official
sources revealed Monday that the five left-wing parties have chosen Mustafa al
Barghouti as their candidate for presidential elections.Al Barghouti, who has
represented the stream of reformists in Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement,
was detained in April 15,2002 and was sentenced five times life imprisonment by
an Israelcourt after accusing him for leading militants groups that were
responsible for killing dozens of Israelis.
Haidar Abdel Shafi, former lawmaker of the
Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), said that he put up al Barghouti as a
candidate of the five left-wing parties.
Abdel Shafi, who was nominated as a candidate by the
five parties and refused to be nominated for heath reasons, said he has chosen
al Barghouti as the candidate and has had complete trust in his national
approaches.
Abdel Shafi asserted on the importance to support the
Palestinian leadership with the youth capacities "that are able to lead the
Palestinian people to the real independency, freedom and democracy."
The senior Palestinian figure also expressed his
gratitude toall Islamic, national and democratic forces for calling to him torun
the presidential elections, adding that he hope al Barghouti would have all
support from forces and from the Palestinian people.Enditem |
