BELGRADE, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The parliament of Serbia and Montenegro approved a national defense strategy Thursday.
The strategy said joining the Partnership for Peace (PFP) program of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization was in compliance with the defense interest of Serbia and Montenegro.
In addition, the strategy allows the presence of UN peace-keeping mission in Serbia and Montenegro and the participation of Serbian troops in UN peace-keeping missions in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
The document also stresses that Serbia and Montenegro will abide by the "Dayton Agreement" and the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, two comprehensive peace agreements to end the 43-month war in Bosnia. The country will never possess and develop weapons of mass destruction, it says.
The PFP program, introduced at NATO's Brussels summit in January 1994, is widely thought to be a prerequisite for joining the military alliance. Enditem |
