NANJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese skies will be lit up with hundreds of "shooting stars" on Saturday night.

    According to the Purple Mountain Observatory, based in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, Asia will be the best place to observe the Leonid meteor shower taking place at 5:49 am Saturday.

    The shower will also be visible Nov. 17, 18 and 19 -- but the show will less spectacular than that on Saturday, said Wang Sichao, a research fellow with the observatory.

    Wang said star-gazers should look for the star shower 40 minutes after the sunset in an open area.

    A Leonid meteor shower is a stream of dust particles or debris,sometimes as small as a tiny grain of sand.

    Chinese star-gazers witnessed a spectacular Leonid shower in 2000, when more than 3,000 meteors were visible hourly. Enditem
