(Xinhua Photo) | BAGHDAD, Nov. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Four US helicopters were hit in two separate attacks near the restive Iraqi city of Fallujah, the US military said Saturday.
The crews of the four helicopters managed to return to their bases, the military said.
They said, at 5 a.m. (0300 GMT), two Kiowa oh-58 helicopters were hit in a coordinated ambush in Karma area, some 10 km northeast of Fallujah.
The pilots of the two helicopters were flying over a canal when they were attacked by heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades, the US military said.
Both helicopters were damaged but their pilots managed to fly back to the US base at Taji, 20 km north of Baghdad. No crew members were injured.
In another incident, two Apache helicopters were hit late Friday by small arms fire as they were flying over the marsh areas southeast of Fallujah.
The pilots, who were not injured, managed to fly the helicopters back to Baghdad International Airport.
The attacks marked the third straight day of helicopters being targeted since the Fallujah offensive began on Monday night. Enditem |
