KAMPALA, Nov. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Donors have approved 420 million US
dollars for the review and study of the River Nile water projects, Ugandan press
reported on Wednesday.
The River Nile is shared by 10 countries. The study expected tolast about five years, will
establish the hydropower potential, water resources, irrigation and drainage.
Egyptian Minister of Water Mahmoud Abu-Zeid was quoted as saying that the
Netherlands is one of the major donors of the grant.
Abu-Zeid told recent meeting of African Ministers Council on Water in
Uganda that other donors were Germany, England, Finland, Denmark and Japan.
"The projects will draw a comprehensive plan for the development of the
River Nile and Uganda is the major center for the project," he said.
On cooperation in River Nile projects between Egypt and Uganda,the Egyptian
minister said that "the cooperation between Uganda and Egypt is growing yearly.
We should look for the ground water and see how to recycle it."
He added that Egypt is currently running the aquatic weed control project
in the Uganda and the 13.9 million dollar projectsis one of the biggest
cooperation between the two countries. Enditem
