3,438 Iraqis killed in past six months: paper

    BAGHDAD, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- The Iraqi Ministry of Healthannounced that during the past six months, 3,438 Iraqis were killedand 15,517 injured by terrorist attacks and military operations, AlSabah newspaper said Tuesday.

    "The Iraqi capital recorded the highest rate of deaths, whichreached 1,217 with 7,085 injuries, while the governorate of Simawawas the least, which registered seven deaths and 40 injuries," saidIraqi Heath Minister Alaa Al Deen Alwan.

    Alwan added the governorates of Anbar, Najaf, and Baqubaregistered more deaths and injuries than other Iraqi governorates.He pointed out the report of the ministry depended on the casesregistered in the official hospitals, which gave detailed reportsabout the cases of the patients.

    The health minister emphasized that the majority of the deathsand injuries are among men, accounting for 90 percent of all.After the toppling of the former Saddam Hussein regime, Iraqwitnessed a rising wave of confrontations, military operations,explosions, terrorist attacks, and violence which caused thekilling and injury of thousands of Iraqis and destroyed the Iraqiinfrastructure greatly.
