Indonesian court rejects lawsuit against Time magazine
www.chinaview.cn 2004-11-09 21:46:48

JAKARTA . Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet)-- An Indonesian court on Tuesday rejected a lawsuit filed by militant Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Ba'ashir against the Time magazine for accusing him of practicing terrorism.

"(The court) states that the lawsuit could not be accepted," presiding judge R. Soedarjatno told the South Jakarta court session.

The cleric filed the suit against Time magazine after it implicated him as Amir, the head of Jemaah Islamiah, who funded the series of terror acts in Indonesia. The cleric asked the magazine to pay one trillion rupiah or (some 100 million US dollar) if found guilty.

The preceding judge rejected the suit on technical grounds, saying the cleric should have included the magazine's New York headquarters in his suit.

"It does not make sense," said Achmad Michdan, Ba'asyir's lawyer. Enditem¡¡
