CANBERRA, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- A German man has become the first person to travel 3,000 km across Australia on a kite-powered skateboard.

Dirk Gion arrived in Darwin, capital of Northern Territory,Tuesday afternoon after a 17-day journey starting Port Augusta, South Australia, Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

He was quoted as saying that the trip was aimed at proving the kite-powered skateboard can cover long distances.

He used a 1.3-meter skateboard and a large kite during the journey, which was filmed by a TV crew and a photographer. The kite could reach speeds up to 50kph.

He said he was told twice by police that "you can't do this here" in South Australia. But there was no problem in Northern Territory, he added. Enditem
