3 killed in car bombing near Kirkuk

    BAGHDAD, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Three people were killed on Tuesday in a car bomb attack on a National Guard base near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, some 250 km north of Baghdad, police said.

    The three victims were workers who were working at the base, located some 15 km northwest of Kirkuk, said the police, adding that two others were wounded in the attack.

    Insurgents frequently target the National Guard and police in an attempt to destabilize the country and halt the establishment of new Iraqi security forces.

    Kirkuk, an oil-rich northern city of Iraq, is the scene of waves of deadly attacks against its police stations, government offices and oil pipes. Enditem
