PLO Executive Committee holds urgent session

    RAMALLAH, Nov. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive committee on Saturday held an urgent session in the West Bank city of Ramallah to mull ways to transfer Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's authorities.

    The session came upon Arafat's decision to continue duties of the PLO, the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and other organizations in his absence.

   Palestinian sources said that the session, chaired by General Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee Mahmoud Abbas, would mull over Arafat's health conditions and the situation in the Palestinian self-rule areas.

   Meanwhile, General Secretary of the PNA al Tayeb Abed al Rahim announced that Abbas would be chief of the Executive Committee and Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei would be chief of the National Security Council.

   He added that the two men would be in charge of the authorities in Arafat's absence.  Enditem
