ĦĦMOSCOW, Nov. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- After the re-election of US President George W. Bush for a second term of office the United States does not intend to alter its stance on the construction of the Bushehr nuclear reactor and other nuclear ambitions of Iran, US Ambassador in Moscow Alexander Vershbow said on Friday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
Commenting on the results of the recent US presidential election Vershbow said the entire international community should be apprehensive over the fact that Iran has been concealing its nuclear program for over 20 years.
According to the American diplomat, a corresponding agreement will be reached before the Bushehr nuclear facility construction is completed in Iran.
The US side is closely cooperating with Russia and other European countries in order to make Iran abandon its nuclear program, the report cited Vershbow as saying.
Vershbow was also satisfied with the cooperation of Russia and the United States in the sphere of fighting against terrorism during George W. Bush's first presidency.
The two countries also achieved progress in preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and in efforts aimed at elimination of AIDS, said the ambassador.
Speaking of the disagreement of Russia and the United States onthe Iraqi problem, the diplomat noted their stances on the strengthening of democratic institutes in Iraq are close.
The American ambassador stressed that Washington is interested in a powerful Russia based on strong democratic institutes. Enditem
